"In Chile there are more than 700,000 people, 700,000 Venezuelans, and only about 0.4% are going to vote. It is a very small percentage that does not represent, in general terms, the feeling of the entire Venezuelan community, because the sample is very small. This is because the dictatorship of the Venezuelan government knows that it is lost and that all of us who are outside, who left, each one with a different story, each one with a reason, are not going to support them with their vote because we are victims of their same bad policies."

STORYLINE:
Millions of Venezuelans living abroad are unable to vote in Sunday’s election due to obstacles put in place by the country’s government.
A tiny fraction of Venezuelans in Brazil and Chile were able to vote on Sunday.
Prolonged economic and political instability in Venezuela has forced millions of people to leave their nation over the past decade, crushing many of their dreams and leaving them wondering whether they will ever return to what was once South America’s most prosperous country.
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) estimates that more than 7.7 million Venezuelans have left since 2014, the largest exodus in recent Latin American history.
Most have settled in the Americas, from neighbouring Colombia and Brazil to Argentina and Canada.
Sunday’s vote poses an electoral challenge to President Nicolas Maduro, who is seeking a third term.
His main contender is former diplomat Edmundo González Urrutia, candidate of the main opposition faction.
