"We’ve announced a strike on our video game contract. And, as of 12:01 a.m. tomorrow, work will stop on all affected titles for all members of this union, until we are able to receive a counter from our bargaining group that gives us the AI protection, specifically, that we need, to move forward safely in our work."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Sarah Elmaleh, SAG-AFTRA chair of the negotiating committee:
"There’s significant loopholes in the language that we got back, loopholes that would affect, or leave open exploitation, the possibility for exploitation, both for members performing with their voice and with their movement, or in some cases, all three, voiced face and movement. And so, while we, we I would very much like to believe that that intention is true and honest and that we can, you know, resolve, you know, this, this concern in the continued bargaining in good faith, which we will continue to do throughout this strike. However, until then, until we see it in language that we can, you know, reliably, tell our membership is safe for them to continue working under. Then we need to, to exert this degree of pressure on our bargaining group, to indicate our seriousness about this issue."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Sarah Elmaleh, SAG-AFTRA chair of the negotiating committee:
"I will, I can think about getting into some of the nitty gritty, but this has been two years in bargaining. You know, so it’s, it’s a lot of a lot of detail. But the basic, framework that was established by that agreement is around the same needs and principles that we have in this one, which is consent, transparency and compensation. And so that is the same standard of safety that we are, you know, we that we’re not only hoping to achieve, but that we need to achieve in this contract. There are some differences, again, based on how this work is done. You’ve heard today some of our performers, particularly in terms of being readily identifiable or some other things that might be familiar to folks who work with their exact likeness on camera. We often transform our performances really extensively, in fact. And our versatility, and our range is often a, you know, a large, I guess, selling points of our, of our abilities as individual performers. So to hold to that same standard would not really be sufficient in offering protection for folks who do this work, whether it’s their their body movements that they’re able to adapt and transform, really extensively or just or our voices, whatever it might be. So that’s one, one example."

STORYLINE:
Hollywood’s video game performers announced they would go on strike Thursday, throwing part of the entertainment industry into another work stoppage after talks for a new contract with major game studios broke down over artificial intelligence protections.
The strike — the second for video game voice actors and motion capture performers under the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists — will begin at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
The move comes after nearly two years of negotiations with gaming giants, including divisions of Activision, Warner Bros. and Walt Disney Co., over a new interactive media agreement.
