"The farm that come in here, I think they had a total of maybe 93 windmills, and I think 53 of them ended up in our fire district. It really was quite the benefit. I think our, annual budget was somewhere around 120,000 dollars at that point, After they was up and operating, we got an additional 42,000 the following year. And to this date, we’re still receiving money from the windmills.”

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Denny Kingren, chief, Paxton Fire Protection District:
"I think it was a big uplift for all of us to realize, well, some people may not like to look at them, but we love what it’s doing. It’s benefiting people and it’s also benefiting us, through the taxes, because it takes a lot to make a fire department operate. The smaller, smaller the department, the harder it is.”

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Scott Saffer, gifted coordinator, Tri-Point School District:
"For us it’s made a huge difference. These towns wouldn’t be here. These towns just wouldn’t be here like they are. The economy is would not be here like it is. We are the major employer in the district besides agriculture, and we just simply wouldn’t have these jobs in this district. People would go elsewhere, and I don’t think they would settle here with their kids.”
12. Various of exterior of Tri-Point elementary and junior high school
13. SOUNDBITE (English) Jay Bennett, superintendent, Tri-Point School District:
"About 15 percent of our total levy was from the windmills. Prior to those coming in, Tri-Point was very, in a very tough spot financially.”
14. Wide of students in gym for school assembly
15. SOUNDBITE (English) Jay Bennett, superintendent, Tri-Point School District:
"These new additional funds were coming in Those, you know, those decisions didn’t have to be made anymore. We could take back those those sports. We could add in staff members again. We’ve added interventionists, we can afford a resource officer. We you know, we’ve added a second, ag teacher at the high school. We’ve really been able to expand, not only get back to where we were, but expand a little bit.”

19. SOUNDBITE (English) Scott Saffer, gifted coordinator, Tri-Point School District:
"I’ve been in districts where we didn’t have any funds, where everything was paid for by either donations or teachers, or us hustling for materials. To focus my energies more on, you know, doing the thing rather than having to attract all the funding, makes a big difference. It makes a huge difference. We get quality staff, they tend to stick around. That makes a big difference. We don’t have to worry about a lot of little stuff and focus more on the teaching. And that’s a real gift.”

21. Wide of students running to school bus at end of the day
