"Yesterday a global alliance was launched at Citizen’s Action (NGO headquarters), and this is another way for us to put pressure on people and mobilize them so that they become aware that it’s no use solving hunger in one country, it has to be solved globally. And above all to show that it’s possible because Brazil has already done it, and knows how to do it, so we’re also an example in this sense."

STORYLINE:
Activists against world hunger demonstrated on Thursday to cry G20 leaders, who are meeting in Rio de Janeiro, to take actions for the global food crisis.

They distributed empty plates, served down from a mockup food truck.

“Serving what millions of people are going to eat today: nothing,” said one of the messages written in the the plates.

Australian Paul Newnham, CEO of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 Advocacy said the plates are symbolizing the 733 million people that faced hunger in 2023 around the world, according the annual State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report, released in Rio.

Finance Ministers and Central Bank Deputies from G20 countries gathered in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday for a two-day meeting during which they will discuss the role of public policies in combating inequalities and deal with global perspectives on growth, employment, inflation, and financial stability to be presented at the G20 Chief of State Summit in November.
