In Venezuela, there’s a tense wait for the results of a presidential election dominated by the economic crisis.
In addition to the authoritarian President Nicolás Maduro, who is seeking a third term in office, nine other candidates are running for the highest-highest state office.
Alongside Maduro, the best chances are given to former diplomat Edmundo González Urrutia from the opposition alliance Plataforma Unitaria Democrática opposition alliance. Over 21 million people at home and abroad abroad were called to vote.
