"That this conflict is an issue that goes beyond our borders. Because if Maduro by force, which is the only thing he has left, stays in power. That would mean the biggest migration wave in history. We could be talking about three or four or five million people fleeing. What does that mean for Colombia, for Brazil, for Central America, for the United States?"

STORYLINE:
In the final stretch of the presidential elections in Venezuela, the opposition mobilized on Tuesday in the capital of the state of Zulia.

Zulia will be decisive in Sunday’s voting as it has the largest concentration of voters in the country.

Amidst a sea of Venezuelan flags and shouts of “it’s going to fall! the government is going to fall!”, thousands of people gathered in one of the main streets of the city of Maracaibo to accompany a procession headed by opposition leader María Corina Machado and the coalition candidate Edmundo González.

During the visit to the western city, Machado took the opportunity to denounce that electoral authorities are not allowing the massive accreditation of the thousands of opposition witnesses at the voting tables on July 28.

She also indicated that the situation was reported to international observers. So far, the electoral body has not commented on the accusations.

President Nicolás Maduro, who is running for reelection for a third term, also held campaign events on Tuesday in the central states of Cojedes and Aragua. During a rally, Maduro launched new attacks against his adversaries, saying that “let’s not expect anything good from that racist and fascist oligarchy. Let us always expect from them their hatred, lies and manipulation”.

Thursday will be the closing of the campaign in the Venezuelan capital.
