“Forty five years ago, Park City, there wasn’t a traffic light here, or there wasn’t one in Summit County or Wasatch County. And over the years we’ve grown, we’ve had inflection point when Deer Valley came on, when Vail came, came to Park City. During Covid everybody decided to come out here and live in their second homes. And so we’ve seen these big, these big changes as we come along. And and I think we do best when we change slowly, when we have time to think things out and do things the right way. But, with the Olympics we’ve had the time and we’ve had the money and I think for the most part what they’ve done has been just excellent."

“Yes, with the 2002 Olympics, the motto was ‘the world is welcome here.’ And really what happened was we brought Utah to the world, and now we’re a world class destination skiing resort, and that’s who we chose to be. And we’re very comfortable with being that."

STORYLINE:
Salt Lake City was formally awarded the 2034 Winter Olympics following a Tuesday vote by the IOC in Paris, which gave Utah its second games after hosting the 2002 Winter Olympics.
A watch party was held at 3 a.m. local time to celebrate the announcement, with large crowds at an event that coincided with a state holiday marking the date Mormon pioneers discovered the Salt Lake Valley. Organizers of the 2034 games plan to use most of the same venues as 2002.
Matthew Lindon, a 45-year resident of the ski resort community of Park City, Utah, where some events will be held, said the city has grown considerably since he arrived.
“With the 2002 Olympics, the motto was, ‘The world is welcome here.’ And really what happened was we brought Utah to the world, and now we’re a world class destination skiing resort,” Lindon said.
