STORYLINE:
Tourists in Paris are finding getting around difficult as most of the city’s landmarks have become the venues of the upcoming Olympic Games and are cordoned off with security barriers.

To get through you need a special pass, which should have been applied for in advance.

"We have to get a restaurant near the Eiffel Tower just to have a glimpse of the Eiffel (Tower). And that’s so disappointing," Angie Diestro, tourist from the Philippines, said.

Security has been ramped up to an extremely high level with 45,000 policemen and gendarmes patrolling the streets and another 10,000 soldiers who are lending helping hands.

Three days before the start of the 2024 Olympics, France’s interior minister said about 1,000 people suspected of possibly meddling for a foreign power have been blocked from attending the Olympics.

About 1 million background checks have scrutinized Olympic volunteers, workers and others involved in the Games as well as those applying for passes to enter the most tightly controlled security zone in Paris.

That zone runs along the banks of the Seine, where the opening ceremony is will take place on Friday.
