(29 Aug 2010) A cooking competition using animal’s testicles was held in Ozrem, in the south of Serbia on Saturday.
The annual "World Testicle Cooking Championship," or "The World Ball Cup," taking place over the weekend attracts hundreds of visitors who watch, and sometimes taste, several teams cook bull, boar, camel, ostrich and kangaroo testicles.
The Guinness World Records calls it "the longest-running testicle cooking championship."
"This festival is all about fun, food and bravery," Ljubomir Erovic said, a Serbian chef and organiser of the unusual event in the remote, mountain village.
Erovic has written "The Testicle Cookbook: Cooking With Balls," hailed the first of its kind.
The food, politely named "the white kidneys" in Serbian, is believed to be rich in testosterone. In the Balkans, it is thought to help men’s libido.
The competition includes dishes like testicle pizza.
"There was a testicle moussaka, there was testicle goulash, stallion, boar, bull, many kinds of testicles," said festival juror Anna Wexler, an Israeli citizen originally from New York.
An award was given in absentia to US President Barack Obama. The certificate for "the ballsiest act" was awarded to the US president for his bravery.
"Because Mr Obama is a great President of the United States of America, in the time when it was the biggest economic crisis here, in the world," Erovic explained.
The culinary winner will be announced on Sunday.
