STORYLINE:
At least six people were killed in an Israeli airstrike in the central Gaza Strip on Tuesday afternoon, according to hospital authorities.
According to Palestinian media, another 10 people were injured when the building was struck in the Bureij refugee camp.
The bodies were taken to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital in the central city of Deir al-Balah, the facility said, where funeral services took place in the courtyard.
Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, sparked by Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on southern Israel, has killed more than 39,000 people, according to the territory’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians in its count.
The war has created a humanitarian disaster in the coastal Palestinian territory, displacing most of its 2.3 million population and triggering widespread hunger.
Hamas’ October attack killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and militants took about 250 hostage.
About 120 remain in captivity, with about a third of them believed to be dead, according to Israeli authorities.
