"So, there are no concrete threats to the Olympic Games, neither from the French intelligence services, nor from the foreign services, friends and partners who are helping us. We are very attentive today, obviously to every weak signal, as we say in intelligence. But we don’t have a clear-cut threat. We are, however, taking a number of measures to ensure the presence of 45,000 police and gendarmes on the day of the ceremony, opening up the forces of law and order to intervene, but also to prevent people we suspect of carrying out an act. Administrative measures are being taken to ensure that they stay at home, that they don’t approach the Olympic venues, and so I think that this work will pay off and enable everyone to see what is most important in these Olympic Games, that is to say, the festivities and the sports."

"Of these five thousand people who were rejected, one thousand have been suspected of foreign interference, you could say, espionage, of course, but it’s also the case of people who have very extensive criminal records, people who have committed crimes, people who are on file for radicalization or extremism, ultra-right, ultra-left or radical Islam. So we didn’t think it was a good idea for these people to be stewards, or to accompany volunteers or teams. Out of 1 million people, 5,000 isn’t a lot."

"First of all, we are obviously particularly protecting the Ukrainian team, which is obviously under considerable threats. We’re here to make sure that sport is not used as an excuse for this gathering in France, and that sport isn’t used for espionage, cyber-attacks or criticism, and sometimes to even lie about France and the French. Interference and manipulation of information are not unique to certain Russian agencies. It’s specific to other countries too. That’s why we’re on the alert, and we also want to tell them that we’re not naïve, and that we want this Olympic truce that everyone knows about, whatever the countries and whatever the moments, to be applied by everyone. The French Interior Minister has said there are no concrete threats to the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
Three days before the start of the 2024 Olympics, Gerard Darmanin said about 1,000 people have been blocked from attending the Olympics amid suspicion of potential “spying" as part of security challenges faced to make the Paris Games safe for thousands of athletes and millions of fans.
About one million of background checks have scrutinized Olympic volunteers, workers and others involved in the Games and applicants for passes to enter Paris’ most tightly controlled security zone, along the Seine’s banks.
The checks blocked about 5,000 people from attending, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said Tuesday.
Out of them, “there are one thousand people whom we suspect of foreign interference – we can say spying,” Darmanin said.
“That’s why we’re on alert, and we want them to know that we’re not naive,” he said.
