2. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Hassan Shaqalieh, from Deir al-Balah:
"The news that matters the most to us today is the end of the war. Biden withdrawing or staying in power are things that aren’t very important to us. These countries have no credibility. These countries are major world powers, right? But they have no credibility when it comes to us, the Palestinian people, no credibility whatsoever. The news that matters to us now is the end of the war. That’s the most important news."
3. People in busy street
4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ibrahim Lubad, displaced from Gaza City:
"It doesn’t make a difference to us anymore, whether it’s him (Biden) or someone else. Nobody is looking at our issues and nobody is showing any mercy. When one person leaves, a worse one comes along. A worse person. Nobody is looking at this issue in a way that would satisfy God."

6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Hamza Fayyad, displaced from Khan Younis:
"Each one of them is worse than the other in dealing with the Palestinian people, since the creation of the Palestinian state. Someone bad leaves only for someone worse to come in."

STORYLINE:
After enduring nine months of devastating war Palestinians in the central city of Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip are indifferent about U.S. President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential election.
"The news that matters the most to us is the end of the war," Hassan Shaqalieh told The Associated Press.
Biden in May presented a deal that aims to end the war in Gaza and return the Israeli hostages the Palestinian group Hamas kidnapped in their surprise attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, but Washington is Israel’s biggest political and military ally.
Hamza Fayyad who was displaced from the southern city of Khan Younis, said there has been no support in Washington for the Palestinian people’s aspiration to a state and end to Israel’s occupation in the Palestinian territories.
“Someone bad leaves only for someone worse to come in,” he said.
Biden dropped out of the 2024 race for the White House on Sunday, ending his bid for reelection after a disastrous debate with Donald Trump that raised doubts about the incumbent’s fitness for office.
The unprecedented announcement, delivered less than four months before the election, immediately upended a campaign that both political parties view as the most consequential in generations.
