STORYLINE:
Lebanon’s Byblos music festival kicked off on Thursday, lighting the night sky of the historic city with music and celebration.

The 23rd Byblos International Festival opened with "Le Grand Spectacle," a production by Lebanese composer Toni Makhoul.

The performance featured more than 100 artists on stage, including musicians, dancers and singers.

The show offered the audience a mix of traditional music, various dance genres , including ballet.

The festival is held annually in Lebanon over the summer and has attracted artists from around the world.

"We are exporting knowledge, culture and art to the whole world," Makhoul said after his concert, which took place near Byblos’ famous citadel and old port.

Tammam Salam, Lebanon’s former prime minister, attended the show and described it as "reviving the spirit of the Lebanese people."

This show comes at a challenging time for Lebanon.

Over the past nine months, clashes between Lebanon’s Hezbollah group and Israel near the border area have killed dozens of people and displaced thousands.

Nonetheless, the public continued to attend the Byblos festival and other cultural and musical events in Beirut.
