"What we have installed here in the Turbine Hall, the Flooded Garden, is a major installation that is inviting our audiences to come and experience the joy of painting and the joy of mark making. We’re inviting audiences to come and pick up a paintbrush and leave their mark and to paint wave-like gestures, to paint water on canvases. And the canvases that we have installed have been pre intervened on, they’ve been drawn and written on by thousands of visitors to Tate Modern over the last few months."

"So, thinking about Monet’s garden. Monet as an individual had cataracts when painting the water lilies, and this idea of his vision being flooded, the antagonistic pain that I would imagine he went through. So this idea is kind of consolidated into the title of the Flooded Garden."

"Drawing and the spirit of what drawing can be as a recording device, of immediate gesture, something that is unassuming and something that is this direct download between the mind and the hand. And I think that’s effectively what this gesture, this experiment, this collective, but also individual… I think the collective express in the architecture, assuming the multi-participation but of course, it’s an individual endeavour that gets recorded."

"Flooded garden is open to everyone. It’s for audiences of all ages to come in to have a go at painting. And once our audiences have flooded the canvases with paints and blues and pinks and yellows, which are the same colours that the artist uses himself, we will then be displaying the canvases here in the turbine hall, so everyone will be able to see the work that they’ve made displayed here at Tate."
