“I know everything! They want a hecatomb, a tragedy to shout suspension of the elections. And the gringos (Americans) would come out, (Argentinian President Javier) Milei and (Ecuadorian President Daniel) Noboa would come out, the right wing: suspend the elections! I tell them that we are prepared: nerves of steel, calm and sanity. And rain, thunder or lightning, on July 28 there will be presidential elections in Venezuela.”

STORYLINE:
With two weeks left until the presidential elections in Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, president of Venezuela looking to extend his rule, started his campaign rally on Thursday dancing and building up a party atmosphere in front of hundreds of supporters.

Maduro assured that the opposition “wants there to be a tragedy in the country” to suspend the July 28 presidential elections.

“If that happens, the gringos (Americans), (Argentinian President Javier) Milei and (Ecuadorian President Daniel) Noboa would come out" asking to suspend them. "Rain, thunder or lightning, on July 28 there will be presidential elections in Venezuela”, he told the rally in Caracas.

Meanwhile the opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has said vehicles used by her campaign have been "vandalised".

This comes 24 hours after Machado’s head of security was arrested following an accusation of gender-based violence. Machado says the women had tried to attack her and opposition Presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzáles.
