"So early this morning, Israel police received a large amount of reports to the emergency dispatch center about an explosion that took place right here in the heart of Tel Aviv in a residential area. Emergency personnel, bomb disposal units and patrol units came to the scene. We understood that we are talking about a large explosion. As you can see behind me, there are various buildings that were affected by the shrapnel of this explosion."

"The police are still working to investigate the cause of the explosion, the exact results of the explosion because, as you can see, various buildings were affected. We don’t know exactly the blast radius just yet and that’s what we’re doing at this time. We’re asking the public to please stay clear of this area because it’s still an active zone that we’re investigating. There can still be remnants that are very dangerous to the public."

STORYLINE:
Police and emergency services were deployed in Tel Aviv on Friday following the attack in the Israeli city where at least one person died and several others were reported injured.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Friday claimed responsibility for the early morning drone strike that hit a part of central Tel Aviv near the United States Consulate.
The aerial strike rumbled through the streets causing shrapnel to rain down and spreading shards of glass over a large radius.
"We don’t know exactly the blast radius just yet and that’s what we’re doing at this time. We’re asking the public to please stay clear of this area because it’s still an active zone that we’re investigating," said Tel Aviv police spokesperson Dean Elsdunne.
The Houthis have launched drones and missiles toward Israel throughout the Israel-Hamas war, in solidarity with the Palestinian people and against Israel.
But until Friday, all were intercepted by either Israel or Western allies with forces stationed in the region.
The Houthis claimed their newest drones can bypass Israel’s aerial defense systems.
However, an Israeli military official on Friday that the explosive-laden drone had been identified on Thursday and attributed the hit to “human error.”
