STORYLINE:
As temperatures soared above 30 degrees (86F) in Austria, 300 people broke a national record in ice bathing in Vienna on Thursday.
Each participant had to stay in a pool filled with ice water for 2 two minutes.
To cool down the water to the required temperature the organisers brought 3 tons of ice cubes to the city centre.
While some participants clearly struggled with the temperatures others couldn’t stay submerged long enough.
“It is a unique experience, simply fantastic. You feel like born again, totally relaxed, focused and it doesn’t get any better,” said Nini Wagner.
One of the goals of the challenge was to raise 30 000 euros (32 700 US dollars) for the Austrian Paralympic Committee, which was accomplished successfully by beating the earlier record by 100 participants.
