++STARTS ON SOUNDBITE++
1. SOUNDBITE (English) Larry Snelling, Chicago Police Superintendent:
"What you saw that occurred in Pennsylvania was an outdoor event and something that obviously we had not been planning for for a year. So the security measures that are in place, that we have in place currently, to prevent those types of incidents from happening. So we’ve had nearly a year to plan for those things. Now, again, if we get any additional Intel, if we see things where we know we need to make adjustments or we need additional manpower, we will make those adjustments as soon as possible. We we are concerned about everyone in the city, especially those around that venue. And we’re going to make sure that we do everything that we can to protect everyone."

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Larry Snelling, Chicago Police Superintendent:
"Now obviously we see something like this that happens, again, once you see something like that that happens, we can now start to plan for the possibility of something like that. That doesn’t mean that we have not already been doing that. So we have been planning for these types of things. And I can say that our partnership with the Secret Service has been extremely strong."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Larry Snelling, Chicago Police Superintendent:
"The Secret Service has plans in place to deal with rooftops. I won’t get into the details of that, but they communicate that well with us."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Larry Snelling, Chicago Police Superintendent:
"On this end, we’re constantly in contact with the Secret Service about things that are going on. Now, one thing that we don’t do here is second guess what the Secret Service plans are, because we know that our our coordination and collaboration with them has been great. Anything that we see here that we think are issues, we will take that to them. They are open for that information in the same thing when they have concerns. And that type of collaboration, gives me confidence that we’re ready and prepared to deal with whatever comes to our city."

STORYLINE:
Days after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling stressed the city’s preparedness for next month’s Democratic National Convention.
The security measures Chicago Police plan to take are constantly evolving, Snelling said.
Snelling was quick to note that the attempt on Trump’s life last weekend occurred at an outdoor rally, not an indoor venue like those to be featured during the DNC.
"The Secret Service has plans in place to deal with rooftops," says Snelling.
Trump suffered a graze wound to the ear when a 20-year-old gunman fired from a rooftop with a rifle at Trump’s campaign event Saturday.
The main DNC event in Chicago will be held in the United Center, an enclosed arena similar to the venue where the Republican National Convention is now underway in Milwaukee.
The Secret Service will be in charge of security at the United Center and McCormick Place, where the other DNC events will be held next month.
The Pennsylvania gunman’s ability to access a nearby rooftop has raised questions about how that event was planned for and to what degree a security lapse came into play.
Snelling said Monday that he spoke with the chief of police in Milwaukee just a day early, and the two have been in steady contact as each city prepared for its convention.
