STORYLINE:
The Spanish capital awoke after a night-long party celebrating the country’s team win at the UEFA EUROS 2024 final in Berlin.
Fans took to the streets waving flags and tooting car horns after Spain’s lively squad beat England 2-1.
The attention is now on the central Cibeles square where the team’s celebrations will take place this evening.
The winning side will arrive at Madrid Barajas airport early afternoon, from there they will meet the King of Spain, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and finally an open-bus parade through central Madrid.
Spain won all seven games at this European Championship — an unprecedented feat — and broke the record for goals scored in a single tournament, with 15.
Since 2001, Spanish men’s teams have won 23 consecutive major finals in club and international soccer.
