6. SOUNDBITE (English) General Philippe Pourqué, who oversaw building of temporary camp:
“Basically, there are two major threats. The first threat is definitely a land threat, which can be any kind of isolated person attempting to undertake a terrorist act. This is land security. But there is a specific and rather modern threat, which are drones. And the military layout is also dedicated to fight against the drones, with some dedicated devices. There are some here in this camp. There are others spread all over Paris.”

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Gen. Philippe Pourqué, who oversaw building of temporary camp:

We’re on a bridge, to see the ceremony arrive, start, and we’ll be able to see everyone pass by on the River Seine and we’ll be right in the middle watching the surroundings. We’re impatient. Impatient for it to start.”

STORYLINE:
The French military is gearing up for its vital role in the massive security operation for the Olympics that open in Paris on July 26.
The military has built a huge temporary camp for 4,500 soldiers in the southeast of Paris.
Camp Alain Mimoun took just 65 days to build and is the biggest military camp erected in the French capital since World War II.
The facility is named after Corporal Mimoun, who was injured fighting in Italy in 1944 during WWII.
He went on to win the Olympic gold medal for France in the marathon at the Melbourne Games in 1956.
The camp has rows upon rows of barracks, with air-conditioned rooms where soldiers sleep together on temporary beds.
The sprawling site is also home to other facilities, including a headquarters, wash areas, a canteen and sports areas.
The camp is slowing filling with soldiers ahead of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
