"Uh, I don’t think safety levels have increased from one day to the next because of that (assassination attempt) issue. You know, America is a dangerous place with all the flood of guns and I realize this, but I’m not going to let that silence my voice. Not going to let that, you know…freedom of assembly’s a very important constitutional part of democracy. We have to show our voices peacefully."

STORYLINE:
The Republican National Convention kicks off this week, with delegates and officials descending on Wisconsin amid the tumult that follows a Saturday assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump as he prepares to become the GOP’s official nominee.
Outside the venue, demonstrators held aloft signs and spoke through amplified microphones. The events of the weekend, with the assassination attempt on Trump, was on the minds of some in attendance.
"Uh, I don’t think safety levels have increased from one day to the next because of that (assassination attempt) issue. You know, America is a dangerous place with all the flood of guns and I realize this, but I’m not going to let that silence my voice," said Tony Srok, who attended the demonstration.
The quadrennial event takes place not only as Trump leads a party in lockstep behind him, but also as Democrats roil over President Joe Biden’s viability and if they should replace him as their nominee.
