US President Joe Biden has said he will return to the campaign trail next week, despite calls from top Democrats including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for him to drop out of the race. On Friday, US media reported that former President Barack Obama privately expressed concerns to former House Speaker Pelosi over the viability of incumbent President Biden’s re-election campaign.
Biden has been isolating since testing positive for COVID-19, but his doctor says his condition is improving. More senior Democrats are urging the 81-year-old to abandon his re-election campaign after his disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump and multiple high-profile press conference blunders. More than 1 in 10 Democrats in Congress have now publicly called on Biden to drop out of the race, due to fear he cannot beat Donald Trump in the November presidential elections.
