β€œAt the moment it is very hot, especially during the day when the temperatures get higher. That is very much damaging the business because people do not go out in the heat and we, our business, is damaged very much. In the afternoon very few (clients come). We work only from 8:30 p.m. until 10.30 p.m. in the evening, and in the morning from 7 a.m. we open the bar until midnight but we work only about three hours due to high temperatures.”

STORYLINE:
Temperatures in Kosovo’s capital Pristina on Friday reached 36 degrees Celsius (96.8 Fahrenheit) keeping people at home and leaving streets and bars empty.

A sizzling heat wave has sent temperatures in parts of central and southern Europe soaring in recent days.

The hot weather that has hit Kosovo has meant very few people have ventured out with bars and restaurants struggling for customers.

"At the moment it is very hot, especially during the day when the temperatures get higher. That is very much damaging the business because people do not go out in the heat," Migjen Dema, a bar owner in Pristina, said.

Mendim Rugova, a meteorologist in Kosovo, said temperatures in the country have risen on average by 2.5 degrees since the 1980s.

He said the current heat wave could last until the end of July.
