3. SOUNDBITE (French) Emmanuel Macron, French President:
“We all slip up sometimes. It’s happened to me. It’ll probably happen to me tomorrow. I would ask you for the same indulgence. It’s the kind of indulgence that’s needed between kind people. Now, I was able to talk to President Biden at length yesterday at dinner. I also had a chance to listen to his exchanges on the sidelines. What I saw, as always, was a president who is in business, in precise charge of the issues he knows well. An experienced man, because he is undoubtedly one of those around the table who has the greatest depth of field on these international issues, and whose solidity as an ally, his knowledge of and attachment to Europe are exemplary.”

4. SOUNDBITE (French) Emmanuel Macron, French President:
“I was able to tell all my counterparts and allies that France’s approach would be one of continuity in its international commitments, whether to Europe or the Alliance. Or support for Ukraine, because the political forces that make up a majority in the Assembly are in favour of these lines, and it was never the forces that questioned them that won a majority."

6. SOUNDBITE (French) Emmanuel Macron, French President:
“We must also respond vigorously to the accusation that we sometimes have double standards. We are sometimes criticised for being far less concerned about Gaza than about Ukraine, and this criticism is deeply damaging to us all. We must show that it is unfounded. I repeat here that it is urgent to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, to free the hostages and to put in place the de-escalation that is essential to prevent the war spreading to Lebanon."

STORYLINE:
French President Emmanuel Macron said Thursday Joe Biden was "a president who is in business" after the U.S. President made a gaffe at a NATO summit in Washington.
Biden referred to Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “President Putin” to audible gasps in the room.
He quickly returned to the microphone: “President Putin – he’s going to beat President Putin … President Zelenskyy,” Biden said.
Then he said: “I’m so focused on beating Putin,” in an effort to explain the gaffe.
When asked about the incident, Macron said: "He is undoubtedly one of those around the table who has the greatest depth of field on these international issues, and whose solidity as an ally, his knowledge of and attachment to Europe are exemplary”.
Macron also said there was an urgent need to put in place "de-escalation" to prevent the Israel-Hamas war from spreading to Lebanon.
