STORYLINE:
VOICE OVER TRACK:
SOUNDBITE (English) Morgan Lee, Associated Press:
"This is Morgan Lee in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where the trial of Alec Baldwin took a major detour today. The judge sent the jury home for the day and through the weekend. Now, the defense says that important evidence about the source of ammunition on the set of the Western movie "Rust" was not properly disclosed. This is after a retired police officer evidently recently showed up at the Santa Fe Sheriff Department and said he had ammunition that resembled the live rounds that wind up on set and that were involved in the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins. Now, Baldwin is on trial for involuntary manslaughter. Now, the prosecution is arguing that this evidence isn’t necessarily relevant to Baldwin’s case. And Kari Morrissey, the lead prosecutor, says she didn’t even know about this ammunition that resembles the live ammunition on set until now. And she… But the judge seems to think this is important. She paused the trial. She actually looked at this ammunition that wound up at the sheriff’s department recently. She’s going to hear first from some more witnesses about the ammunition and whether it was properly disclosed. Disclosure is at the heart of this. The defense says this information was kept away from it, from Baldwin, from their counsel. The defense says that they might have changed their whole approach to this trial if they had known about this evidence."
