"We’ll be ok (in hot temperatures). Slowly but surely we go home or we take dips in the water here. I hope we’ll be ok if we keep hydrated."

9. SOUNDBITE (Romanian) Elena (only name given), retired:
"Somehow we manage to live (with this heat) and that’s the most important thing. With a lot of water, a lot of vegetables, a lot of fruit. We stay in the house, after 10:30/11 in the morning, we draw the blinds. Those who have air conditioning get a little more air, those who don’t must endure (the heat) because that’s life. So we hope that after these two weeks God will also give us a cool rain to cool off for a few days. There’s nothing we can do."

11. SOUNDBITE (Romanian) Ion (only name given), retired:
"The asphalt radiates. At some points it becomes unbearable, after 11 o’clock ( in the morning). What can I tell you, it’s clearly dangerous. We hydrate ourselves with water and fruit and the rest. Whatever God gives us, we do it brilliantly. We try to be strong, so to speak, at this age."
