STORYLINE:
Israel’s bombardment of central Gaza on Tuesday killed at least 10 people including four children and a woman, hospital authorities said.
The fatalities were taken to the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the central city of Deir al-Balah, and al-Awda Hospital in the Nuseirat refugee camp, according to the two medical facilities.
An Associated Press journalist saw the bodies of eight people, including a woman and four children, at the morgue of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
The al-Awda Hospital said it received two.
Among the dead were a woman and her child daughter who were killed in an Israeli airstrike overnight in Deir al-Balah.
Three men were killed in another airstrike in the Nuseirat refugee camp, according to hospital authorities.
Another five people, including three children, were killed and four others were wounded in a separate strike on the Bureij refugee camp.
Two fatalities were taken to the al-Awda hospital and the three children were transferred to the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, the two facilities said.
Israel launched the war in Gaza after Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack, in which militants stormed into southern Israel, killed some 1,200 people — mostly civilians — and abducted about 250.
Since then, Israeli ground offensives and bombardments have killed more than 38,000 people in Gaza, according to the territory’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians in its count.
The war has largely cut off the flow of food, medicine and basic goods to Gaza, and people there are now totally dependent on aid.
The top U.N. court has concluded there is a “plausible risk of genocide” in Gaza — a charge Israel strongly denies.
