5. SOUNDBITE (French) Arthur Delaporte, New Popular Front MP:
"It’s a profound relief, a relief to have made this possible, thanks to the Republican front, to have avoided the accession of the National Rally to power. Behind this, there’s a heavy responsibility. I’m elected from the New Popular Front. I was also elected thanks to the votes of those who opposed or wanted to block the far right. And so I have this responsibility to contribute with my colleagues to govern, to give a government to France, since today we are the New Popular Front, the leading political force."

7. SOUNDBITE (French) Laurent Jacobelli, National Rally MP:
"A solid group like the National Rally group, increasingly established in all kinds of territories. It is I think for the French a source of, how should I say, calm, wisdom, and that feels good in an Assembly that risks being very hectic, but not for the right reasons."

9. SOUNDBITE (French) Sylvain Maillard, Renaissance Party MP:
"Another thing that our fellow citizens sent us, I believe throughout France, is that they don’t want the chaos of the France Unbowed party. They don’t want the mess in the street. We have an extremely festive moment. We have the Tour de France, there is the end of the Euros, there are the Olympic Games coming up. I think the message they are sending us is that they want calm. We want things to be calm. We heard it perfectly. We are going to take a few weeks to build this alliance and I believe with all the republican forces of good will want to improve the lives of our fellow citizens."

STORYLINE:
Election results show French voters have chosen to give a broad leftist coalition the most parliamentary seats in pivotal legislative elections, keeping the far right away from power. Yet no party won an outright majority, putting France in an uncertain, unprecedented situation.
French National Assembly members commented on the unexpected election win for the far-left coalition on Monday.
Sylvain Maillard, a Renaissance Party MP, said voters had sent a message calling for calm.
"We heard it perfectly," he said.
Arthur Delaporte, a New Popular Front MP, said the result was a "profound relief" and that it was thanks to the Republican front.
"Behind this, there’s a heavy responsibility," he added.
Laurent Jacobelli, a National Rally MP, said the party was also a source of "calm" and "wisdom" in an Assembly at risk of being "very hectic."
President Emmanuel Macron ’s centrist alliance arrived in second position and the far right in third — still drastically increasing the number of seats it holds in the National Assembly, France’s lower house of parliament.
No clear figure has emerged as a possible future prime minister. Macron says he will wait to decide his next steps, and heads to Washington this week for a NATO summit. The new legislators can start work in parliament on Monday, and their first new session starts July 18.
