1. Various of Florida Panthers supporters braving bad weather along route of parade
STORYLINE:
It was going to take more than a massive thunderstorm to deter supporters of the Florida Panthers from attending their team’s Stanley Cup parade Sunday.
The torrential downpour, accompanied by a huge lightning storm, had led authorities in the so-called "Sunshine State" to issue flood warnings in the area.
But thousands of determined ice hockey fans braved the rain to take up prime positions along the beachfront route of the parade in Fort Lauderdale.
The Stanley Cup is awarded to the National Hockey League playoff champion.
The Florida Panthers were crowned champions for the first time on June 24, after they beat the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game 7 of the final.
It was the third title-round appearance in Florida’s 30-year history; it was swept in 1996 by Colorado and routed 4-1 by Vegas last season.
