STORYLINE:
Chile and Peru joined other Latin American countries in celebrating Pride Day on Saturday with a Pride parade through the city streets.

According to the National Homosexual Movement for Integration and Liberation of Chile, more than 120,000 people marched through the centre of the capital, Santiago, in a Pride parade.

For Chile, this is a special occasion, as it commemorates 25 years since the decriminalization of homosexuality in the country.

Between 1875 and 1999, the Chilean penal code established penalties of between 541 days and three years imprisonment for persons of legal age who had consensual sexual relations with persons of the same sex.

In Peru, the LGBTQ+ community marched on Saturday under the slogan "Nothing to cure" in a clear appeal to the Peruvian government, which this year issued a decree that considered seven gender identities as "mental illnesses."

After criticism this week, the Peruvian government reversed and corrected the norm.
