"I think some are listening. I think that we are starting to see some pressure that is impacting people and the elected officials. You’re starting to see some, dissent among the Likud members. And all we need are only a few that will vote according to their actual beliefs. So I think that we are the only ones who can help ourselves."

"I hope there will be a deal, with Hezbollah because, as I said, the alternative is very, very bad. The government has no policy other than staying in position, not in the north, and neither in the north nor in the south. And therefore a deal which will be able to remove the Hezbollah according to decision 1701 north of the Litani (river), I think is much better."

STORYLINE:
Thousands gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday protesting against the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, demanding new elections and a deal to release the hostages still in captivity in Gaza.

Carrying pictures of the hostages and banners reading “Save us from Netanyahu” they expect to be heard by the politicians leading the country.

"I think that we are starting to see some pressure that is impacting people and the elected officials," said one of the protesters, Daphna Rashman. "All we need are only a few that will vote according to their actual beliefs," she added.

Israelis frustrated with the prime minister and the way he has handled the war are also concerned with the growing tensions in the north of the country where the exchange of fire between the army and Hezbollah has increased bringing a risk of a war in another front in the country.

"I hope there will be a deal, with Hezbollah because, as I said, the alternative is very, very bad," said Bennie Hirch.

The country has grown increasingly divided as the war in Gaza has dragged on and cease-fire efforts have faltered, with tens of thousands of people joining months of anti-government protests across the country.

Israel launched the war in Gaza after Hamas Oct 7 attack, in which militants stormed into southern Israel, killed some 1,200 people — mostly civilians — and abducted about 250.

Since then, Israeli ground offensives and bombardments have killed more than 37,600 people in Gaza, according to the territory’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians in its count.
