STORYLINE:
At least three people, all members of Gaza’s first responders, were killed in an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza late Thursday, according to the local hospital that the bodies were brought to.

The bodies of those killed and the injured were transferred to Al Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah and were counted by Associated Press journalists on the ground.

AP journalists saw the bodies of three people arriving at the hospital, as well as a man rushing into the hospital carrying an injured young girl.

First responders with Gaza’s Civil Defence said three members of the agency were killed when the Israeli strikes hit.

In a statement posted on the group’s Facebook page, the agency said members were killed "while they were carrying out their humanitarian work."

The head of the Civil Defence in central Gaza said the men were targeted in their work station in Nuseirat, in central Gaza.

There was no immediate comment from Israel’s military about the strike.

Footage from the hospital showed bodies of men carried on stretchers, some of them still wearing Civil Defence uniforms.

A large group of people gathered around the bodies in the hospital, bidding farewell to loved ones, chanting slogans and praying.
