16. SOUNDBITE (Kiswahili) Waziri Mutema, victim’s father:
"I would like to ask human rights organisations to closely monitor this issue of killings by police. The International Criminal Court (ICC) should not let this guy (President Ruto) continue being free, he should be at the Hague. He cannot be allowed to kill such young people and say he is trying to make the country better."
17. SOUNDBITE (Kiswahili) Edith Wanjiku, victim’s mother:
"There should be justice for all the young people who have lost their lives and those nursing gunshot wounds in hospital. Ruto, this country is not yours alone, it belongs to all Kenyans and we are all looking up to you. But now you are the one bribing members of parliament to vote yes to a bad bill. They said two million shillings each, an MP openly said this. The MP chose to leak your dirty secret and that is why we are feeling the pain that spurs us to go out and protest."

STORYLINE:
Edith Wanjiku holds onto one of the few photos she’s left with of her teenage son Ibrahim Kamau.
His life was cut short by two gunshot wounds to his neck that were sustained during Kenya’s deadly protests on Tuesday in which more than 20 people were killed.
The 19-year-old Kamau was among thousands of protesters who stormed parliament while calling for legislators to vote against a finance bill that would increase taxes. Police opened fire and several people were killed on the spot.
Kamau had just completed high school and planned to study electrical works.
