"Karen Read is accused of fatally striking her Boston police officer boyfriend, leaving him for dead in a snowbank. Prosecution are leaning heavily on evidence, including testimony from first responders who came upon the scene early in the morning, and they heard Karen Read say repeatedly that she hit him. She hit him. They also found broken … pieces of broken tail light from her SUV at the scene, as well as, they say, DNA from John O’Keefe on her vehicle, a hair sample. The defense is leaning heavily on conspiracies and a cover up. They say that she was framed. They basically presented evidence of conflicts of interest involving investigators and witnesses on the scene, and then evidence of sloppy investigations, including, you know, the way evidence was gathered. And they even suggest things like DNA and pieces of glass were planted at the scene."

"This case goes back several years, and prosecutors allege that the two were out drinking that night heavily. And then they decided to go to a house party in Canton, Massachusetts. Read allegedly dropped him off before she backed into him and then left for home. Several hours later, she realized he hadn’t come back, and so she returned to the scene to find him lying in the snowbank. He was pronounced dead at the hospital from blunt trauma and hypothermia and the defense would have you believe that it wasn’t Read who backed into him, but that O’Keefe got into a scuffle in the house where this house party happened, got into a fistfight with one of several people, and then was tossed out into the snow where he died."

STORYLINE:
The fate of Karen Read is in the hands of jurors after a two-month murder trial in the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend.
The jury went home Wednesday after a second day of deliberations.
The jury must decide whether the Massachusetts woman angrily struck officer John O’Keefe with her SUV and left him for dead in January 2022.
The defense says she was framed and that O’Keefe was actually beaten inside a fellow officer’s home and then dumped out in the snow.
Read’s charges include second-degree murder, which carries up to life in prison.
Crime bloggers and pink-shirted supporters have been tracking the trial’s every detail.
