"So, dear members of Seventeen, I am delighted to be able to soon award you a diploma and welcome you as a member of our family. This is your home now as well. You have many in the world, but this one is going to be your home. You will be part of our family, part of UNESCO’s Goodwill family. And I’m very proud and happy to be able to count on your voice to engage with the young people across the globe."

STORYLINE:
K-pop stars Seventeen were recognized as UNESCO’s first-ever Goodwill Ambassador for Youth on Wednesday during a ceremony at the Organization’s headquarters in Paris.

Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay welcomed the 13-member group to the "UNESCO family."

"I’m very proud and happy to be able to count on your voice to engage with the young people across the globe," said Azoulay during a ceremony held outdoors with the iconic Eiffel Tower in background.

Member Joshua Hong spoke on behalf of the band.

"As the ambassadors for Youth, we will spread the power of companionship and contribute to building supportive youth communities for the better future we envision," said Hong.

The South Korean group launched the ‘#GoingTogether’ initiative in 2022, in collaboration with the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, promoting the opening of educational centers in Timor-Leste and school support in Malawi.
