"The security challenges throughout Gaza right now are the general sense of lawlessness and the fact that it is continues to be a combat zone. There are opportunities when the drivers will get stuck at checkpoints. There are opportunities where humanitarians will be caught in the crossfire between the two parties to the conflict. And there is a sense of desperation by those on the ground that see trucks and need that assistance. So the lack of security to be able to provide that security chapeau that’s needed for the humanitarians to work is what’s really lacking right now and preventing the distribution of assistance."

And there’s also been reports from some of our partners that it’s becoming a bit more organized and systemic, in the sense that gang-like activity is taking place, in the sense that they will stop the vehicle and then forcibly take the commodities from it."

"This is a mega project. This is a mega challenge for everyone because, we have been trying to create something that was not in place. We offered an option to the international community. It’s an option that is a complex. But this is a case because of the environment within which we have to operate. So, it’s difficult at all stages of the project and we are doing everything we can to make sure that it’s as efficient as possible, given, of course, the circumstances. On the other hand, there is no alternative, inaction or inertia in this kind of situation is not an option, we believe."

"We have made significant investment in trying to facilitate the delivery of assistance because of the urgency of that need, because we know that, last month alone, the assistance that went through this maritime corridor, we know it reached a million Palestinians in Gaza. So while, undoubtedly, it has challenges. We also know that it is making a difference. We know we can do more."
