STORYLINE:
The Nairobi Funeral Home was a sombre scene on Wednesday as families of those killed in protests against proposed taxes gathered to identify their loved ones.

Among the mourners was 20-year-old James Munyaa, who was devastated by the news of his brother’s death. Ericson Kyalo Mutisya, 25, was fatally shot during Tuesday’s demonstrations.

Munyaa recalled the moment he learned of his brother’s fate.

"I immediately went home, unable to see him as the city was inaccessible," he said. Remembering his brother fondly, Munyaa described Ericson as "a sweet person" and "a hero," known for his sociable nature and popularity among peers.

"What we need now is justice for Ericson," he added.

Officials at the morgue confirmed that seven bodies had been brought in, several bearing gunshot wounds. Family members, grappling with their loss, are demanding justice.

Eugene Mutitu, a friend of Ericson, expressed his outrage: "This was not a normal death; it can be likened to an assassination. He was killed like a thief, yet he was not one. We just want justice."

Kenyatta National Hospital reported receiving 165 casualties related to the protests, with 72 remaining in the hospital as of Wednesday.

Benjamin Wabwire, Acting Director for Surgical Services at Kenyatta National Hospital, detailed the injuries, noting a mix of blunt trauma and gunshot wounds, with many resulting from rubber bullets and six from live ammunition.
