Paris Fashion Week is in full flow, and a collection from 89-year-old veteran Giorgio Armani was one of the highlights Tuesday.
He returned to his touchstones of the Art Deco period — the 1920s and ’30s — and romance for a slow-burning and brightly gleaming couture display called “Pearls.”
It was less girl with a pearl earring; more girl with a pearl everything.
Stéphane Rolland’s latest collection was theatrical, with a monochrome palette, and silhouettes that were either exaggerated or subtle and elegant.
Jewelry came in the form of a statement brooch, necklace or buckle – usually bedecked with sparkling stones. Critics called the show a quintessentially French expression of fashion.
Bubbles are never far away from the effervescent fashion designer Alexis Mabille. Guests sipped champagne, with champagne-filled ice buckets even on the runway in a celebration of luxurious excess.
Varied looks sometimes surprised guests, such as a Bob Mackie-style feathered headdress that out-Cher-ed Cher, showcasing Mabille’s flair for Hollywood-inspired glamour.
