STORYLINE:
Thousands of people gathered in Buenos Aires on Friday to practice yoga and meditate as part of an all-day celebration of International Yoga Day.
International Yoga Day was established in 2014 by the United Nations to promote yoga’s physical, mental, and spiritual benefits.
Celebrated annually on June 21, the day is marked by events and activities worldwide.
The roots of yoga can be traced back thousands of years to ancient India, where it was developed as a discipline to harmonize the mind, body, and spirit.
The practice involves various physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), and meditation (dhyana), aiming to achieve balance and harmony within the individual.
Yoga spread globally in the 20th century, gaining popularity first in the West through the teachings of Indian gurus and the establishment of yoga schools.
