STORYLINE:
US and Chinese officials met on Thursday in Beijing for talks on counternarcotics cooperation.
Wang Xiaohong, Minister of Public Security of China, said the counternarcotics cooperation between the US and China had led to positive outcomes since it restarted after a summit meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden last November.
"The results we have achieved over the last plus five months once again show that our two sides stand to both gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation," said Wang.
Rahul Gupta, Director of the US Office of National Drug Control Policy, said no country in the world was untouched by drug trafficking in some way. He said the US had invested more than 167 billion US dollars in funding to support the country’s counter narcotics efforts over the past four years.
“And the world expects great nations like ours to cooperate and invest in the issue that costs the world trillions of dollars and claims millions of lives a year,” Gupta said.
