"This is our fourth or fifth year. This year is, obviously, a little challenging because of all the heat. You know, our kettle gets up 150,000 BTUs (British thermal units) and runs about five minutes and then the fans push the heat out right on to all of us. The hardest part is not staying dehydrated … or staying hydrated."

“It’s rough. I was here all day yesterday for about 10-and-a-half hours, sweating. We had a kid we had to send home. It’s rough. You had to stay hydrated, we all did, but the heat gets to you. For the most part it’s fun. We do usually have 10 kids in here, so it gets to 100 degrees back here. Everybody asks if we have AC (air conditioner), we do not. It’s very hot and we get long lines, so it can get very rough sometimes.”

STORYLINE:
A heat wave is moving closer to the breaking point from the Midwest to New England as millions of people sweat it out for another day.
The National Weather Service says the heat will peak Thursday in the eastern Great Lakes and New England, and on Friday or the weekend in the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic.
Heat index readings combining temperature and humidity are expected to pass 100 degrees in many locations, possibly breaking all-time records.
The weather service warns that record temperatures overnight are preventing natural cooling, and that means heat danger can build up indoors.
