“From the start, we begin with our traditional consultation work. Then I explain the HIV testing. So, at the very beginning (of the study), they really looked down on us.”

“For some clients, going to the clinic (after their results) is a big problem. More so, especially among men, they dislike going to the clinic. So in trying to understand why they are so against going to the clinic, I found that they prefer to come to us (traditional healers). I found they had many concerns about discretion at the clinic. They don’t feel safe.”

“It was very difficult for me I thought they are fooling us as traditional healers. At the end of the day I saw this as beneficial. I enjoyed this and understood what is HIV, how it is transmitted and how its not transmitted. I am enthusiastic. When working with someone with HIV, I ensure that I follow up so that they take their treatment correctly for them to live. I see that as important.”

“I don’t give up if I test a person and find them positive I talk to them, encourage and advise them to go to the hospital. I keep their referral and wait for them to advise on when they can go to the clinic. Should they fail, I personally walk to the clinic, accompanying them, committing myself to take them to the clinic so they can get treatment.”
