"A lot of money spent when you could help health care, which we need really bad. We’re in really bad shape on health care, I’ve experienced that at my own expense. So it’s money thrown away when it could have been invested on health care"

8. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Elena Alcolino, local resident:
"There has been bad organization, whose fault it is I don’t know, but there has been some confusion as far as transportation and movement is concerned. There has been poor organization but I think it’s someone else’s fault and not the people who run our municipality"

11. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Cosimo Matarrese, local resident:
"As far as complaints are concerned, certainly some businesses are going to lose turnover because of various situations that are occurring. Many are deciding to stay closed to avoid perhaps issues unfortunately inherent in the usual discussions that often happen at G7, so certainly some will not go to benefit. But broadly speaking I think something positive in short, though."

STORYLINE:
People living inside the G7 security ‘red zone’ are complaining about restrictions placed on their town for the event.

Residents in the small hamlet of Fasano say the town can only be accessed with the right permits and are subjected to thorough checks.

Elena Alcolino, a local resident, said: "There has been bad organization, whose fault it is I don’t know, but there has been some confusion as far as transportation and movement is concerned".

Residents say they have been given an inadequate number of passes for their cars, and some have been denied access to places they frequent daily.

Security is also at its highest for the arrival this Friday of Pope Francis at Borgo Egnazia, who will join summit leaders at the luxury resort.
