Delhi has experienced its hottest ever June night with temperatures reaching more than 35C (95F).
One government hospital in the centre of India’s capital has said it has seen 46 patients suffering from heat stroke in June.
The humidity and hot winds have exasperated the heat, which has led to water shortages and power outages due to soaring demand.
Dozens of people have died of heat-related illnesses since March, when summer set in.
