STORYLINE:
A un año exacto de que sus restos mortales fueran hallados en un cuartel militar de Montevideo, Uruguay despidió el jueves a Amelia Sanjurjo, detenida cuando estaba embarazada y desaparecida durante la dictadura entre 1973 y 1985. Su identidad solo pudo ser confirmada la semana pasada.
Centenares de personas se concentraron en las cercanías de la Universidad de la República de la capital uruguaya para dar su último adiós a la militante comunista, quien estaba embarazada de su primer hijo cuando fue arrestada en la vía pública el 2 de noviembre de 1977, entonces con 41 años.
Según la Fiscalía uruguaya, Sanjurjo murió de forma violenta tras ser sometida a "diversos y aberrantes tormentos que le provocaron su muerte”.
A lo largo de la mañana, centenares de personas asistieron a la Universidad de la República con banderas rojas, flores y otros regalos para recordar la memoria de Sanjurjo, cuyos restos fueron enterrados más tarde en el Cementerio de La Teja de Montevideo.
Sanjurjo es la sexta persona y la primera mujer desaparecida durante la dictadura cuyos restos han sido recuperados desde 2005, cuando iniciaron las excavaciones en instalaciones oficiales, en el marco de las pesquisas llevadas a cabo por un extenso equipo conformado por antropólogos, fiscales, médicos forenses y familiares de detenidos desaparecidos.
Por más de una década, Uruguay estuvo gobernado por una dictadura cívico-militar, entre 1973 y 1985.
La cifra oficial de uruguayos desaparecidos en ese periodo es de 197 personas, en su mayoría, detenidos en Argentina en el marco del Plan Cóndor, una iniciativa militar de colaboración entre las demás dictaduras que gobernaban los países vecinos. De ellos, tan solo 31 individuos han sido identificados.
