"When I woke up I couldn’t open the door because of the corrugated Iron sheet blocking the door from the outside. When I pulled the sheet metal, I saw this strong whirlwind with loud thunder and heavy rain. I got rained on whilst I was inside my house."

STORYLINE:
A heavy storm has devastated a South African town, left at least seven people dead, and over 1,000 others displaced, local media reported.
The town of Tongaat in northern KwaZulu-Natal was severely affected by a tornado-like storm and residents returned there on Wednesday to inspect damage to their properties.
Disaster teams are still evaluating the extent of the damage and providing immediate relief, including accommodating displaced residents in government buildings.
