1. SOUNDBITE (English) Colleen Barry, The Associated Press:
"Amanda Knox was back in an Italian courtroom today hoping to clear the last legal stain against her. That’s a slander conviction for having accused her former boss, a Congolese bar owner, in the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007. She was exonerated in that murder, but she did not have the same outcome today in a Florence courtroom. The murder trial against Knox garnered worldwide attention. It was not only tabloid fodder but it was one of the first trials by social media. Trial watchers on both sides of the Atlantic argued vociferously about the trial especially as flip flop verdicts changed Amanda Knox’s fate back and forth over eight years until she was finally exonerated in 2015."

13. SOUNDBITE (English) Colleen Barry, The Associated Press:
"She was back in court now because the European court of human rights ruled that her rights had been violated during one long night of questioning when she was not given legal counsel or an adequate translator. During that night, she signed two statements typed by police in which she accused Lumumba. The next day, she tried to walk that back. She wrote a four page handwritten note in which she said she no longer believed the variety of what she had signed the night before during the wee hours of the evening. That was the only piece of evidence that the court could consider during this trial. They evidently believed that there was enough in that four page letter to support a slander conviction. Her lawyer says she’s embittered and we can expect them to appeal the decision to Italy’s highest court extending once again the long legal battle of Amanda Knox, Now in its 17th year."
