Why would Macron call snap elections after far-right’s big win in EU vote? | DW News

French President Emmanuel Macron has rolled the dice on his political future after being trounced by the far right in the European elections. He’s called a snap national poll for later this month following a major victory in the EU vote for Marine le Pen’s National Rally party. It’s projected to take over 30 percent of the nationwide ballot – more than double that of Macron’s liberal Renaissance party.
