"So today’s day one of Hunter Biden trial, and there’s only one witness today. It was an FBI agent who investigated the case against Hunter Biden. Remember, this is a a drug case, gun case. He’s accused of lying on a form, a federal form, for the purchase of a gun in 2018 when he was struggling with a drug addiction to crack cocaine. And so the jury heard a lot of, text messages, all the text messages that he sent to people about, you know, the purchases of drug deals, taking of drugs, that sort of thing. His lawyer, when it was his turn to talk, suggested that, the gun was, he bought the gun at a time when he was maybe not in the throes of the drug addiction at the worst, and didn’t consider himself an addict at the time."

"Tomorrow, we’re going to hear from the second and third witnesses. At least the first one is an ex-wife of Hunter Biden. And the other witness that we might be hearing from tomorrow is an ex-girlfriend. Again, this could be a lot of testimony about his drug problems, I guess, and how it relates to his purchase of a gun in 2018."

STORYLINE:
Prosecutors spent the first day of testimony in Hunter Biden’s federal gun trial detailing his history of drug use.

The case is dredging up painful memories for the president and his family, and revealing new and highly personal details about their struggles with addiction and grief as the presidential election looms.

He’s accused of lying on a federal gun form in 2018.

The proceedings come after the collapse of a deal with prosecutors that would have avoided the spectacle of a trial so close to the 2024 election.

Jurors also got their first look at the document at the center the trial and heard audio excerpts of Hunter Biden’s memoir.

He has pleaded not guilty.
