Israeli forces have so far secured the release of seven hostages, including the four rescued today. More than 100 others were released in a hostage deal in late November and early December.
Negotiations for a cease-fire and the release of more hostages have recently stalled again. Israel says it remains committed to destroying Hamas in Gaza, while Hamas insists on an end to the fighting and the complete withdrawal of all Israeli troops from the territory.
